Came in this am as suspected RTA (open wound on right lateral hock, scuffed nails). 
 X-rays revealed bilateral femoral neck fracture and L hip femoral head luxated as well.

&lt;p&gt;Excision arthroplasties (cranio-lateral approaches - don&amp;#39;t do bilateral gluteal tenotomies) would be miles better than cage rest if only from a pain control point of view.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Better still would be to use the same surgical approach and then reduce and fix the fractures - two small K wires placed from the fracture surface back out through the lateral femur then retrograded (after reduction) into the femoral head fragment. You only need one or two mm of K wire point into the femoral head/capital fragment and two wires are enough. If surgery fails you can salvage with bilateral excision arthroplasties and consequently you are no worse off.
