Thank you for the helpful chicken hints- I've also been searching for a good chicken book! As an aside, could anyone recommend good reptile and rodent books? I've looked at the BSAVA books but I was after something more basic involving husbandry as well. And yes I have your app, Mark, and it's fantastic!

Diseases of Free Range Poultry by Victoria Roberts is handy. It's aimed at the lay person, but often problems are husbandry related and it's good to have the background knowledge first. Clients are often poorly educated on the most fundemental of things eg henhouse hygiene.

I would agree that the older manuals were very poorly indexed and difficult to use, but I think they have improved enormously in the last few years. The newer ones I find excellent - they are generally easy to read, with good illustrations and pitched at GP vet level.

It was out of print at BSAVA and there was a rumour they were not going to be printing it again.

That's a shame, must be a new edition out soon, I got a copy when it first came out and its probably one of my most used manuals.

Have just tried to order the BSAVA book thinking that the goat bit would be useful too, but it's out of print. Boo!

Just a tiny bit too far - we're in North Yorks! And to put a spanner in the works we have no i-appliances or even android phones. Plain old mobiles that make calls and send texts only!

However CPD notes would be hugely useful and appreciated thanks.
