Apparently she rescued it from Ireland and handles it well.
I don't suppose it will be much different to a bitch but has anyone had any experience of doing one?

I have to admit at the time I did not consider implications. the local wildlife rescue was up in arms about the whole thing - fortunately at that point i had not actually done anything to the fox - but after discussing implications with the wildlife people - namely that the fox would never be able to re enter the wild without scent glands and should not be kept as a pet - I decided to ring the RCVS to ask about the legalities.

It turns out spaying is OK as this considered acceptable for population control. It is NOT legal to remove the scent glands unless there is something wrong with them. so this was a close call - i truly did not think it through. the 'owner ' was adamant that he was keeping the fox - it had been rescued while still blind, and completely hand reared and his opinion was if he had not done this, it would have died, therefore although not ideal it was already imprinted and was safer with him than being re educated to live wild.

the owner ended up spaying the fox elsewhere, and shortly thereafter it promptly ran away. i think they now have another one, but it has not come my way. thankfully. It was my first taste of the politics of wildlife and could have been a PR disaster- though i have trouble thinking of anything smaller than a deer as wildlife!

Re: Anyone ever spayed a fox?!

Difficult to know what to advise-whether or not spaying is a good idea before thinking how to do it Will spaying make it more likely to remain cub like and therefore content to stay at home, or will it still leave home once grown up and be more vulnerable as unable to find a mate?
