Ferretone is great for getting crushed medications into ferrets. they seem to go wild for it. For heart medications, I tend to scale down the cat doses and have had a reasonable amount of success. Better to try something sensible and fail than have an animal die of heart failure anyway.

Yep I have used it and had some success (assuming you have identified and corrected the reason for the inappetance.

Thanks Mark, we'll go with the 0.25mg/kg then.

Also (whilst I have you!) do you have any knowledge/experience of using mirtazapine with inappetant ferrets?

Hi you can't really overdose with an ACE-I. It's an enzyme inhibitor, so you can only inhibit 100% of that enzyme's activity (at best). Which is what we're trying to do with the standard dose. Giving a higher dose won't inhibit the enzyme any more than 100%. So I would go at the cat dose (if you have one). It's not toxic to my knowledge and has been used in rabbits. Goodluck

I fail to see why a liquid would be any easier than a crushed tablet mixed into food, especially for a ferret. But sorry, no help on dose rates...

Old thread I know, but in the interests of keeping things in one place I thought I'd add rather than start a new one

Are there any doses known for imidapril in ferrets? I have a CHF ferret, and the owner is not keen on the idea of trying to get tablets in (even crushed) and with Prilium being a liquid ACE-i I thought may be worth a try, cat/dog doses are both 0.25mg/kg it seems.

To that end, the Android version is now on its way if you subscribe to that sort of phone.

Benazepril: 0.25-0.5mg/Kg PO q 12h
