I'll add to the seeming plethora of exotics questions. Should I be recommending pet chickens are vaccinated? If so, with what and at what age? If the vaccine status is unknown (like in a chicken I saw today) would people still vaccinate (once

Re: pet chicken vaccinations

Mareks at day 1 (certainly prior to moving outside/mixing with adults) by injection for all chicks- Poulvac MD is best as can be stored at fridge temperatures so doesn't need liquid nitrogen or anything fancy. Not much benefit in vaccinating adults as likely already contacted virus but as you have at least 1000 doses to use in a couple of hours then worth considering.

Infectious bronchitis (from day 1 to 14 as spray/eye drop) is also a good idea - exact brand will depend on strains in local area.

I tend to recommend people breeding do Mareks and IB in chicks asap, but those buying in a few adults for eggs have missed the window for Mareks vaccination prior to exposure and I recommend IB (& mycoplasma if mixing from differing sources or known problems on site)
