I recently performed a VCA in a Yorkie and the op went very well and it healed beautifully. I think it's all about case selection. This dog had chronic inflammation in one ear and was largely confined to the vertical canal. I f you have a perforated ear drum and otitis media (like those awful cocker spaniel ears) then a TECA would be indicated.

To be fair it was the first one I had done in about 10 years.

A protocol of good initial diagnosis , tailored treatment plan, demonstration of technique of application of drops and impressing the importance of follow ups with ongoing ear cleaning drops solves 100% of my otitis cases. I have however seen ongoing problems with those performed (not very well) elsewhere. I would not doubt your surgical technique Gerry so I wonder if leaving cases until later and only operating on those which already have a chronic, non-responsive infection will lead to the problems you describe.

Re: Partial Ear Ablations - problems

Bit obvious, but have you (or the company) changed the suture material you use?

Re: Partial Ear Ablations - problems

What do you mean by 'partial ear ablations'?
