The op went routinely. A few days later the owner phoned to say the dog was leaking urine whilst lying down, otherwise seems fine in himself. A urine sample

Re: Incontinence after castration?

Thought I'd revive an old post rather than start a new one.

Over the past 6 weeks or so, I have castrated 4 dogs. Three routine neuterings and one to aid an anal adenoma. However, a few days after surgery, two of the routine ones came back having started urinating more and seemingly not able to hold their bladder. Not a true incontinence - they seemed conscious that they were urinating,

First case - 8mo old spaniel puppy, seen by my colleague for this urination, Urinalysis pH 6.0, USG 1.014, pro + all else negative. Told to monitor. Not been seen since (presented beginning of december)

Second case - 18mo old pointer, pre op bloods done at owner's request - mild increase in K+ but also haemolised sample. When presented today, urinalysis pH 6.0, USG 1.016 pro + all else negative.

Both got a dose of meloxicam at the time of the op but nothing since (can't remember if the puppy got continued oral meloxicam after POC). No antibiotics given.

It is the USGs that are worrying me. Is there something I should be watchful for, or just try further pain relief as suggested above?

I have given him some metacam and advised them it could take a little while to resolve completely but will hopefully continue to improve with time. These sort of post op probs always make me panic slightly!

Re: Incontinence after castration?
He is coming down this evening
