Unfortunately they do now seem to be causing a problem.
Thanks for the suggestion - the owner has had the horse since last August and up until 2 weeks ago it had been fine. She had a good EDT out to check its teeth and although they did need doing he didn't think they were bad enough to be causing the horse to be head shy (plus it's still doing it now). I've discussed trying steroids with her - on the understanding that the horse has never had a history of laminitis and her warned of the risks or giving it longer to see if it will settle again.

Has she had a veterinary surgeon to look at the teeth?

Re: Aural plaques

Thanks for the suggestion - the owner has had the horse since last August and up until 2 weeks ago it had been fine.
But (little but) has your client EVER been able to get a collar on the horse? Was there a period after purchase when all was well, for more than, say, a week? In a private purchase like this, one has virtually no rights as a buyer - unless the vendor is deliberately economical, obtuse or careless with the truth.

BUT (big but) I'd have a good long look in its mouth first.
