I'm intersted in how other people use amlodipine in cats with high blood pressure.
According to BSAVA manual, the dose should be 1/8 of the available smaller tablet.
Is there any alternative to this? Any advise?
Many thanks,

I've always wondered where the BSAVA manual stands in the Cascade, I mean where's their clinical testing? How can we possibly dispense a drug without a label with an animal on it?

How many thousands, probably millions of animals, have been damaged, or worse, by this scurrilous rag put out by people with not a jot of experience, training or knowledge whose only aim is to make money........

And they only use the generic names for drugs!

Yes, tut

However, mostly I wonder why on earth they can't employ an indexer who knows what he's doing. I never use those manuals unless I can't find the information anywhere else, mostly because the indexing is so useless I can never find what I need without setting aside more hours than I have for that kind of thing.

Re: Amlodipine in cats

[quote user="Luciano Nebiante"]

Don't worry, there'll soon be a V-POM "clinically tested" and licenced if there is enough demand and financial gain.

With your reply I learnt three things!

That there's a ShareTips section on VetSurgeon, and the two ways on how to have smaller doses of a drug.

And an enormous thanks goes to Martin! Fantastic Tip!

Re: Amlodipine in cats

Summit Vet. Pharmaceuticals re-formulate them into smaller sizes at a not unreasonable price - although this obviously substantially more than the original 5mg tablets.

Or you could steal Martin Atkinson's tip from the "shared tips" section above: crush the tablet and mix it well with a knob of butter. Roll this into a cyclinder and freeze it, dividing it into equal slices for dosing.
