Sorry Bob - I just realised - I didn't not see the dates on the posts - now it all makes sense - I thought you had the whole report but wore concentrating on the "round cell tumour" diagnosis - [hits forehead] Blimey - one of those days today!

Yes Laurance, Lomustine is one reported protocol (Lomusitne=CCNU).

I recall a histiocytic sarcoma that was put onto lomustidine by an oncologist. Can't remember much more that that I'm afraid.

No it is the second page of the same report. My original post just asked for ideas on 'round cell' tumours. It was answered helpfully with 'need to know more'. I appreciated this advice and followed it thus getting page two!

Perhaps I should have posted the first page earlier but I was in the middle of surgery and wanted a bit of advice ASAP. I got the advice, told the owner we needed to do more to id the lumps more accurately before making a judgement on treatment options!

I suspect this is a poor prognosis, we thought so from the start but were hoping for MCT and chemo options. I know the owner does not want aggressive treatment for the dog!

That's a different report - your scan said suspicous of histiocytic malignancy final dx? The term round cell tumour is non-specific as people have suggested above - this is not a working diagnosis - its just a group of tumours.

I quickly removed my "misleading" comment (after reading everything) as it was not the correct term to use but all the info you can get out of those biopsies is in that report apart from Tx

However the end of the report is not too helpful to you? I would have suggested that the prognosis is generally regarded as poor, especially with the muticentric nature, and at present effective chemotherapeutic protocols are limited - Further information should be gained from an oncologist regarding treatment protocols?

Why misleading? I said they suggested round cell tumours and unless my eyesight is deteriorating or brain function deteriorating this is how I read the path report.

Bob - they are not just suggesting they said they were "round cell tumours" - They are suspicious of histiocytic malignancy - this is a bad prognosis if they are esp given the multicentric nature - My suggestion would be to do use either paliative tx or seek the opinion of an oncologist if insured or owner compliant.

The issue here with IHC is that we don't have good markers to confirm they are histiocytic in origin and thus is a rule out diagnosis (trying to rule out lymphoid and mast cell origin) - I think your looking at aggressive chemo (TK receptor drugs may work if not then prob doxy/platins/CCNU) or maybe steroids

Reading the report seems to me, after IHC, they are as sure of HS as they can be?

Any treatment ideas would be appreciated!

I was hoping these would turn out to be MCT and therefore Masivet be useful. The masses are widespread over the skin surface and many (10+) larger ones deeper so surgical excision is not an option

Sounds a very non-specific diagnosis, can you request immunohistochemistry to further characterise?
