We just had a rep from Vetplus at our clinic and he was saying that some vets are using Samylin as a liver supplement in exotics.
I wanted to know if some of you have used it? Any good?
What about others supplement that can be used in

Re: Liver supplement in exotics

[quote user="Marie Kubiak"]

Is there anything to back up its claims? Ideally in reptiles but fear I'm being optimistic! I use milk thistle at the moment as there is enough in the human medical field to support its use and liquid is easy to give, but would be nice if there were alternatives with additional benefits.

Do you mean if there is anything to back up claims that SAMe is effective per se or that it is effective in reptiles? Doesn't milk thistle work in a similar way by containing a natural anti-oxidant anyway? I believed that SAMe was so effective in humans that not only did it effectively treat alcoholic patients in almost end stage cirrhosis who would otherwise needed a liver transplant but had such a beneficial effect on their state of mind that they didn't revert to alcoholism. Other than that I can only go by the pharmaceutical companies research and data.

Yes I use it lots especially for the Pha tortoises it's also good for the anorexic herbivores that need some liver support. Because its a powder it can be added to syringes food easily
