You have the luxury (?) of being self-employed. Working for someone else suits me as I don't like the hassle but does mean I have to toe the line financially and not irritate those who stress about the figures. So I try and get RSPCA to help out where I feel I can legitimately ask for funding, I don't bother asking for the usual pigeons, hedgehogs and small stuff so was annoyed they tried to fob me off with a deserving case. Plus I have 25 fish from a raid that seem now to have moved in to the practice permanently so they have irked me :)

Were you open when the bird was brought in becuse if you are I don't think they will pay: "Small wild mammals will be treated free-of-charge if they are brought to the surgery."

[/quote]

Hi MIchael,

we were OOH so there should be some funding for the OOH fee and emergency treatment. Thanks for the links, I have both those documents which seem to support the OOH aspect but the phone operative was adamant that all wild birds were excluded and I recall the RSPCA updating the guidelines and excluding smaller birds but thought raptors remained eligible

Mark,

of course we treated her! See the original post - we were doing surgery but obviously wanted to do this at least loss to ourselves as RSPCA should be contributing as per MOU. I've done lots of these wildlife cases and RSPCA have always tried to wiggle out of any involvement but usually will pay a minimum contribution.

Thanks for the one star, not sure why as I was only seeking clarification for raptor OOH care!
