Isn't vitamin C degraded by UV exposure, so you're much better dosing orally than mixing in the water?

Shame on you, Lorna - as a piece of social history, I'd suggest looking up the public rosehip collections of the second world war. As to dandelions, I try to stop them from growing (in vain). Dill and fennel are pretty useful too, though.

Hi Andrew,

I am aware of Beaphar's solution, in fact we stock it in our petshop (Petsathome recently opened round the corner from us and are in direct competition, so I won't be sending clients there!). I didn't use it as it is not clear from the packaging what the vitamin C content is. I tend to advise 100mg/kg daily to any sick guinea pigs. I would also prefer to use just vitamin C rather than multivitamins.

Do you know how much vitamin C a guinea pig would expect to get from the Beaphar solution if used at the recommended concentration?

Rose hips are also a firm favourite: I keep a line of Rosa Rugosa down the side of the house for that very reason (and they smell lovely for about three weeks of the year). Normally, I dry them for use, but one of the side effects of the mild winter - up until this morning - has been that we're still getting the odd flower and so fresh hips.

How much? I guess it probably states the vitamin C concentration on the bottle, but I don't have one to hand (I can feel a trip to Sainsbury's coming on....)
