I spoke to them at BSAVA about it, and they said that because of concerns about the response to the VHD part in rabbits that had previously had myxo vaccines, they had increased the amount of the VHD component per dose (for a temporary period), and that had apparently resolved the problem.

As far as I know it's fine to to use and causes demonstrable raised titres, even in previously vaccinated rabbits. To be on the safe side you can give a separate VHD 2 weeks after the combined, the first time you use the combined, and then every year after that you just need the combined one.

Bumping this thread! Anyone got any more information re. previous vacc'd rabbits? We're thinking about getting it in to our surgery so want to know what we're getting into.

I spoke to them last week as was concerned about the lack of efficacy in previously vacc'd rabbits. Their comment was that by the time it is available they should have data to back up its use in these vaccinated rabbits too but it's not available yet as results are pending. They promised to circulate this info as soon as it's available.

Would be nice to have this vaccine for compliance but I like to see my bunny clients regularly to pick up minor issues before they get clinically significant.

I was told that rabbits that had not been vaccinated against VHD but have had myxi would need a top-up vaccine of VHD 2 weeks later and then would just need annual myxo-RHD.

glad it's not just me that thought it was a bit odd... is this just rabbits that have been vaccinated with something other than nobivac myxi in the past or is it including nobivac myxi in the list of 'other vaccines'. Can only see it being useful for new rabbits at this rate...

Um, well... that'd be most rabbits that are vaccinated at all; and what of the ones where the owner doesn't know? With a bit of luck, that clarification you mention will be forthcoming before they launch it :0)

I have called MSD to ask about this - apparently as long as the rabbit has had a VHD vaccination at some point in the past, this won't be a problem, it's only a potential issue for those who have only been vaccinated against Myxomatosis. However, they are doing further tests as research has currently been done on European rabbits where they use a myxoma vaccine already rather than Shope fibroma, so this may not be a problem anyway. They are hoping to clarify the issue before the vaccine goes on sale in March.

rabbits that have been vaccinated previously with another myxomatosis vaccine, or that have experienced natural myxomatiosis infection in the field, may not develop a proper immune response against rabbit haemorrhagic disease following vaccination."

Available in March apparently. I have watched it going through the VMD licencing process and been waiting for its arrival!
