How did it turn out?
Inherited a case, 12yo JRT with non-healing ulcerative lesions close to pinnal tips. Started on one ear, then t'other. Resected both pinnal tips with at least 2cm margins, and sent off.
Never treated one, but last recommendation from dermatologist I came across was pentoxyfylline (which I'd guess bares as many similarities to vivitonin as it does to vetmedin, corvental and viagra - i.e. it's pharmacological mechanisms of action in dogs are probably poorly understood and it's vaguely classed as a 'phophodiesterase inhibitor') at 20-30mg/kg q12hrs, which is somewhat higher and less frequent than other textbook recommendations, in addition to some steroids and, failing that, surgery.

I think some have linked it to vaccination - doubt any conclusive link, but may be worth not vaccinating the dog any more unless risk-assessment suggests it really needs these?

Re: Proliferative thrombovascular necrosis of the pinna

A friend who is also a vet had this with her lurcher. She just resected the pinna with a hefty margin and it did fine. Don't think she really realised what it was until afetr she'd fixed it!
