About The Society of Small Animal Medicine

The Small Animal Medicine Society was founded in 2003 for general practitioners and specialist internists from the UK and abroad who share a passion and enthusiasm for small animal medicine.

The main aims of the society, and benefits of membership are:

A forum for the exchange of knowledge and understanding of canine and feline medical conditions, and through which to ask for advice with difficult cases. This is open to members of the European Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ESVIM) to help the exchange of information between countries.
Continuing professional development in advanced small animal medicine, appropriate to the level of a RCVS or European specialist in small animal internal medicine but open to anyone with an interest in small animal internal medicine.
An annual meeting every year at BSAVA Congress as a satellite meeting usually on the first Wednesday in April, and a occasionally a second Autumn meeting.
To promote high standards of small animal clinical medicine.
To encourage collaboration in the clinical research of small animal medical diseases.

Membership is open to members of the veterinary and medical professions including veterinary students and veterinary nurses and to other suitable qualified workers who are interested in the above aims. The society currently has approximately 120 members (AGM 2008).

Application for membership of the Society must be submitted on the official application form which can be downloaded here. Such applications must be proposed and seconded by existing members of the Association. This can be organized after the completed application form has been returned to the Membership Secretary (so please don't let that put you off joining - it is more a formality that anything else!).
